• Automatic GA4 tracking integration

With the automatic GA4 tracking integration, a new GTM container is created which sends the Varify Experiment events to GA4.

    In short

In the Tracking Setup Wizard you have the option of having the tracking setup carried out automatically. The setup can be carried out completely automatically, but requires manual action if you only want to send your data to GA4 via user consent.

How the automatic tracking setup works

The Varify script is used to integrate a Google Tag Manager container that was created and edited by Varify. In this container, the Varify events are reliably sent to the GA4 property you have set. The Google Tag Manager settings differ depending on whether you define in the Tracking Setup Wizard whether you send the data to Google Analytics 4 without user consent or with user consent.

    Integration without user consent

The setting that the data is sent to the Google Analytics 4 property defined in the Tracking Setup Wizard without user consent creates another Google tag (Gtag) in addition to the Varify events. This is configured so that no additional page views are generated. The additional Gtag is created because Varify only sends the experiment events to GA4 as soon as the Gtag has been loaded. This has the advantage that all experiment data arrives reliably at GA4 and is reported correctly.

    Integration with user consent

With the setting that the data is sent to Google Analytics 4 with user consent, only the Varify events are sent to the GA4 property stored in the Tracking Setup Wizard. If the setting Send data with user consent is selected, the "Tracking Activation Script" can be configured and sent via your own Google Tag Manager.

    Tracking Setup Wizard setting

If you select the automatic tracking setup in the Tracking Setup Wizard, Varify will send your experiment data directly to your defined GA4 property. To do this, Varify creates its own Google Tag Manager container, which is integrated into your website via the Varify script.

If you are using the server-side Google Tag Manager, you should select the manual setup.
